Time has always been such a mystery to me. I’m pretty convinced that I have undiagnosed ADD because I have zero concept of time (which is what I blame my excessive tardiness on). Anyone else with me on this?? I am truthfully fascinated by time. How is it that there are moments when one minute feels like eternity, and other times when months seem to fly by in the blink of an eye?
Living to Love
This year we have been focusing on “living to love.” Love might seem like a broad and vague topic, but we truly believe that it’s what makes life worth living. In our efforts to cultivate this love (love of God, ourselves, family, and others) we chose to focus each month on a specific area. For example, in January we decided to start these challenges off by focusing on loving ourselves, because after all, we can’t quite fully love others until we truly learn to love ourselves. In the book, “The Gifts of Imperfections,” Brene Brown writes this in regards to her discoveries about this topic (based on her research):
“Love is not something we give or get; it is something that we nurture and grow, a connection that can only be cultivated between two people when it exists within each one of them – we can only love others as much as we love ourselves.”
Each month, we have used this calendar as a way to keep track of weekly and monthly progress. We have focused on loving a spouse/ significant other, loving children and loving others. And this month for May we are focusing on combatting motherhood shame by showing love and compassion towards ourselves and other women.
